George Papastefanatos
Dr. George Papastefanatos is a principal researcher, head of the Department of Cloud Platforms and Data Services in the Information Management systems Institute of the Athena Research Center. He holds a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering and PhD in Computer Science from the National Technical University of Athens. George has more than 20 years of active involvement as a researcher, technical and project manager in several RTD projects, including projects related to Big Data Analytics and the European Open Science Cloud activities. George has been member of EOSC Working groups and Tasks Forces (Architecture WG, Interoperability of data and services) and he participates as a technical manager and researcher in a series of EOSC-related research projects (EOSC Future, EOSC-ENHANCE, eInfraCentral, CatRIS, Neanias, OpenAire, EOSC Pilot) being responsible for the development of the EOSC Service catalogue. He has co-authored more than 70 papers, 1 book and 3 chapters in books in areas of indexing and query optimization, data integration in the cloud, scalable and interactive visual analytics, and 3 of his articles have been awarded best paper prizes in conferences. He has been guest editor in 3 special issues (Big Data Journal, Computer Graphics and Applications), he has been organising the series of International Workshops on Big Data Visual Exploration and Analytics, he has been in the organising committee of ICDE 2021 and member of the program committee of top-tier conferences (VLDB2023, SIGMOD2023, ICDE2023, EDBT2023 among others).
