João Fernandes

João Fernandes is a member of the senior staff of CERN IT Department, with more than fifteen years of experience in distributed computing infrastructure, fostering several collaborations with academia and industry. João was the technical coordinator of HNSciCloud, an award-winning initiative that established a cloud platform linking cloud providers and publicly funded research organisations’ in-house IT resources via the GEANT network to support data intensive science. João is the project lead of H2020 EOSC ARCHIVER, an R&D project to establish hybrid cloud services for analysis, storage and long-term preservation of scientific data. João holds a master degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Porto University, School of Engineering. Before joining CERN he was a research engineer at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) USA, with responsibilities in distributed computing providing a hub for massive scale real-time collaboration within the global Large Hadron Collider (LHC) research community.
