WorldFAIR: connecting EOSC and global FAIR practices
Organiser:
WorldFAIR
About the session
WorldFAIR is a global, EU-funded project comprising partners from all continents. Led by CODATA and RDA, WorldFAIR will advance implementation of the FAIR principles by developing a cross-domain interoperability framework and recommendations for FAIR assessment in eleven disciplines or cross-disciplinary research areas. Each case study will develop an interoperability framework, recommendations and guidelines. Early project activity has focussed on preparing FAIR Implementation Profiles (FIPs), a methodology and tool for describing FAIR practices in each research area. This session will introduce the project, discuss the FIPs outputs and the work of selected case studies. Discussions will identify more precisely how WorldFAIR’s global and domain perspectives can best contribute to EOSC.
Relevance for EOSC
WorldFAIR was funded by the HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ERA-01-41 call, rather than one of the INFRA-EOSC calls, but can make a significant contribution to EOSC. The project responds directly to Recommendation 4 of Turning FAIR into Reality, ‘to support the development of interoperability frameworks for disciplines and interdisciplinary research’. The culture and practices of research disciplines have an international dimension: WorldFAIR will help maintain a dialogue between EOSC and domain and global considerations around FAIR. The outputs of WorldFAIR, including FIPs, the Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework, and recommendations for domain sensitive FAIR assessment will be significant contributions to EOSC.
